Rendering

For this assignment, I was instructed to render a floor plan given by my professor. The goals of this assignment were to have one room represent an analogous color scheme, and the other room represent a complementary color scheme. In order to successfully complete this assignment, advanced rendering skills were required. In order to properly render the floor plan provided, I needed to find seamless textiles that would fit the criteria for this assignment.

As displayed in the photo to the left, my analogous room is on the left using the red-violet, violet, and blue-violet analogous color scheme. My complementary room is on the right using purple and orange complementary color scheme.

Line & Shape, Pattern & Texture

The goals of this assignment were to recognize how line, shape, pattern, and texture play a role in our projects in Interior Design. I was instructed to use original photography to create a collage of letters of the alphabet based on my observations of either the natural or built environment. The restrictions of this project consisted of all letters being clear and un-altered. I was then instructed to import the images into photoshop and create a grid pattern of the alphabet on an 11x17 display board.

For my project, I chose to look through fabrics to find letters. This took careful observation and patience.

Color Assignment

For this assignment, I was instructed to use my knowledge of color theory and experience in Photoshop to create an intricate geometric design that demonstrates value change and balance. This could be shown either symmetrical, radial, or asymmetrical and limited to the use of primary colors. It was also in the requirements of this assignment that the design had some type of dimension to support the design.

After reviewing the instructions of the assignment, I chose to demonstrate a radial balance design with a blue value change. The project has a value change radially as the two-dimensional flower petals start as a rich blue value and become tinted in color and larger in size as the eye moves outward.

The project above demonstrates a radial balance and value change in both the tint of the color and sizing of the flower petals.

Self-Portrait

For this assignment, I was instructed to select a vertically oriented portrait of myself and print out two copies in black and white. I was the instructed to photograph four family members or friends. In the interest of everything aligning as accurate as possible, I had to rescale and resize the pictures, so the eyes, nose, and mouth were in about the same place in all the portraits. I then needed to print two copies of each four portraits in color.

With the self-portrait copies, I had to cut one into vertical 1/2" strips and the other copy into horizontal 1/2" strips. With these strips, I wove them together to essentially re-construct the picture. I then selected which features of my friends I wanted to weave through. I was instructed to cut one 1/2" vertical strip and one 1/2" horizontal strip that highlighted each feature for each of my friend's portraits. These strips were then woven into my self-portrait to create one portrait.

Group Assignment

For this assignment, I was assigned a group with 3 other students. We were instructed to design an advertising bulletin board for the Family and Consumer Sciences Department utilizing three principles of design. The billboard needed to meet the criteria of being horizontally oriented, 36" x 96" dimensions, equally represent all of the majors in FACS, use only original or open license images, and have a black band around the perimeter.

For the project, my teammates and I decided to do a retro theme for our bulletin. This bulletin represents the design principles of unity, balance and emphasis. It was one of my tasks to bring our vision to life by designing the bulletin in Photoshop. Instead of writing "Family and Consumer Sciences" underneath the FACS abbreviations, I decided to boarder each letter with the word it stood for.

Scale

For this assignment, students were instructed to pick out a piece of patterned fabric from the resource room. We were provided with two copies of a chair picture. On one copy, we were instructed to accurately render the original scale of the pattern onto the chair. For the second copy, we needed to enlarge the pattern 2x and render it onto the chair.
